You
realize that autumn has arrived the moment you see cool, crisp covering the
edges of the grass at early morning. Soon your eyes will catch the glimpse of
surrounding greenery that slowly changes into other colors like orange, yellow
and so on. Steadily the temperature also starts to feel that let the cool
breeze swiping your face the moment you step outside. While opening your
windows you must have noticed that the water fountain that is installed in the
backyard of your house is asking for attention. According to many experts, it
is at this moment when these water features require serious attention and
proper care just to retain its quality. Particularly if the temperature of your
present location falls below freezing temperature, its high time you pay
particular attention to this feature.
If
the water fountain has movable feature, try to place it at inside the region like
garage area or in a storage shed within your house so that frosts don’t get accumulated
over its surface. However, it is not always possible either because of its huge
size or the absence of movable feature in it. Then what you will do to save it? Winterizing the fountain is the
only best alternative you can conceive of. Though it may sound like a daunting task,
but doing it can help in retaining the fountain for the next few years.
How you are going to do
it? For that, you need to drain out the entire
stored water of the fountain. Once the entire water gets drained out, remove
the pump as well. This is because, during winter the frost might get
accumulated over it making it unsuitable to use in the next spring. After these
jobs are done, cover the fountain with a ‘fountain cover’. Many e-stores
selling outdoor water feature do sell such fountain covers as well. Buy one of them
to cover up your garden feature. Or else you can use any old blanket or any
water absorbent material to serve the purpose. Once you have wrapped the
fountain with this material fully, use a tarp material to cover up the entire
fountain. Make sure it is tied up properly so that it doesn’t comr off with the
air that blows during winter. If possible you can lift its base and place
wooden shims so that the base of the fountain doesn’t get freeze to the ground.
Thus,
your water fountain gets fully protected before the cold winter tries to cause
any damage to it.
